Let's face it. In the old days
(as of six months ago;) antistatic chair mats and flooring sometimes
complied with EOS ESD S 2020 by providing a resistance to ground
slightly below 1.0E09. But with today's new requirements the
esd flooring (or matting) surface must fall in the conductive
range of <1.0E06 to provide the recommended resistance between the
operator / heel grounders and floor matting surface of <3.5E07.
In addition the
combination resistance of esd chairs and matting to ground of
must be below 1.0E09 constantly. Why the
changes? Many sophisticated components are simply too susceptible
to damage from even low voltage electrostatic potential.

Many ordinary anti-static (>1.0E06)
chair mats rely on the ambient humidity in the environment to render the
mats even slightly conductive. When the humidity is high
(>60% rH) they sometimes meet the old specifications for conductivity
(coming in slightly less than1.0E09) BUT when the humidity drops they become
insulative! A mat's electrical conductivity to ground tells the tale. Does
this mat really work? Not really. A piece of dry wood comes in
about as conductive as this popular mat AND it's not even close to
being conductive enough to comply with the latest specifications for EOS ESD
S2020 for conductive flooring or 97.1 technician / heel straps / flooring
requirements. |
Eventually ALL materials get rid of static, the questions is; can your
critical electronics wait?
We start by providing a high grade
heavy duty non cleated chair matting selected for it's mechanical integrity,
clean the top surface to remove contaminants and cover with our unique ESD
conductive adhesive. This adhesive is allowed to cure and subsequently
covered with our Titanium ESD Flooring. The ESD Flooring material is
rolled onto the adhesive, allowed to cure and fully tested to S2020-2007, 97.1 and
7.1 standards using NIST certified equipment prior to shipment.
Attachment to ground is provided via 10mm male grounding terminals provided
on the outermost corners of the mats. Simply attach the ground cord
(provided with the mat) to one of these terminals and attach the opposite
end (ring terminal) to the center screw of a electrical faceplate cover or
approved common point ground block.

epoxy and VCT floors
